A brush hearth scorched swaths of tough, hilly terrain Tuesday within the far southern reaches of San Diego County.

The blaze erupted shortly earlier than 9:30 a.m. close to Butewick Canyon, roughly midway between Tecate and Otay Mesa Port of Entry within the Otay Mountain Wilderness Space, in accordance with Cal Hearth.

As a result of rugged and distant nature of the burn zone simply north of the U.S.-Mexico border, floor crews needed to be airlifted in to struggle the flames together with personnel in air tankers and water-dropping helicopters, stated Mike Cornette, a fireplace captain with the state company.

As of early afternoon, the personnel had halted the unfold of the blaze at about 20 acres, Cornette stated. No structural harm or accidents have been reported.

The reason for the fireplace was below investigation, the fireplace captain stated.
