A belligerent and presumably armed artificial a scene at a Hillcrest doughnut store Friday after which refused to go away, prompting evacuations and an hourslong police standoff that tied up visitors within the busy uptown district close to Balboa Park.

The disturbance on the Donut Star store within the 600 block of West Washington Road was reported about 1:30 p.m., in response to the San Diego Police Division.

When the disruptive man, who gave the impression to be a transient, refused repeated orders to go away the enterprise, officers evacuated it, cleared folks out of the instantly surrounding space and referred to as in disaster counselors to attempt to persuade the intruder to give up.

Police believed the person is likely to be armed with a gun, a kitchen knife and, presumably, a bigger bladed implement described as a sword, SDPD Officer Sarah Foster mentioned.

At about 2:30 p.m., police referred to as a SWAT crew to the scene and closed the roadway between Dove and Eagle streets as a precaution.

The stalemate was ongoing as of shortly earlier than 5 p.m., SDPD Officer Robert Heims mentioned.
