A transient parolee who allegedly attacked and tried to rob a septuagenarian jogger in El Cajon final week was behind bars Monday.

Ian Alexander Farmer, 41, allegedly jumped the 73-year-old man within the space of Greenfield Drive and Mollison Avenue about 11 a.m. Friday, in line with the El Cajon Police Division.

In the course of the mugging, the assailant grabbed the jogger’s arm, threatened to shock him with an electrical stun gun and tried to take his pockets, ECPD Lt. Jeremiah Larson mentioned.

The sufferer fought off the attacker and fled, shouting for assist. The attacker chased him for a time, then ran off in a special path when he realized the police had been notified, the lieutenant mentioned.

The suspect — a registered intercourse offender with a felony historical past that features convictions for theft, vandalism, home violence and intercourse with a minor — was arrested within the space a short while later.

Farmer was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of theft, elder abuse and parole violation. He was being held with out bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
