A pedestrian crossing state Route 76 was struck and killed by a car, the Oceanside Police Division stated Monday.

Officers responded to calls at 6:23 p.m. Sunday of a serious harm collision involving a car and a pedestrian close to the intersection of SR-76 and Canyon Drive, stated OPD Sgt. Clint Bussey.

“This collision occurred when a white Toyota Prius heading westbound on SR-76 collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the freeway illegally from south to north about 100 yards east of the intersection,” Bussey stated. “The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.”

The driving force of the car remained on the scene and was cooperative with legislation enforcement, the sergeant stated.

The id of the pedestrian was being withheld pending notification of the following of kin.

The OPD’s Main Accident Investigation Group carried out the investigation.

Anybody with details about the collision was requested to name OPD Officer Kevin Lissner at 760-435-4651.
