Mayor Todd Gloria introduced the launch of his third annual “Mayor for a Day” contest for town of San Diego Okay-12 college students. 

The winner will get to shadow Gloria and different metropolis leaders for a day, plus have a particular function at the State of the Metropolis tackle in January 2024. 

College students are invited to jot down an essay or submit a video about how they might make San Diego a greater place to reside in the event that they had been mayor. The chosen winner shall be invited to Metropolis Corridor and given the chance to attend conferences and occasions with the mayor. They may even study different metropolis departments and lead the Pledge of Allegiance on the State of the Metropolis tackle in January. 

The “Mayor for a Day” contest goals to foster and encourage management in younger folks dwelling in San Diego. At age 10, Gloria was runner-up in a “Mayor for a Day” contest on the metropolis of San Diego. Thirty-two years later, he was sworn in as San Diego’s thirty seventh Mayor. 

 “My hope is that the expertise will assist get youngsters  in a profession in public service,” stated Mayor Todd Gloria . “A contest like this helped get me considering management at a younger age, so I introduced it again to assist encourage San Diego’s subsequent era of civic leaders.” 

Gloria launched the “Mayor for a Day” contest in 2022. The winner in 2022 was Aiella Niles, a third-grade pupil from Mira Mesa who wrote an essay in regards to the significance of choosing up litter and conserving San Diego clear.  

The winner in 2023 was Emma Smith, a fifth-grade pupil from Tierrasanta who wrote an essay about how she wished to learn to assist her neighbors in want, restore San Diego’s streets and clear up parks and seashores. 

The deadline to submit functions is midnight Dec. 15. College students can apply on-line right here.
