A 21-year-old man was arrested Friday on suspicion of assault with a lethal weapon within the stabbing of a 23-year-old man within the Gaslamp neighborhood, the San Diego Police Division stated.

At 2:19 a.m. Friday, Eduardo Santiago Magdalena was allegedly concerned in an altercation with a gaggle of bystanders at 500 F Avenue, SDPD Officer David O’Brien stated.

Magdalena walked away after the altercation and was handed a knife, the officer stated.

“Magdalena walked again towards the group he had been combating with and stabbed a 23-year-old man who was not concerned within the preliminary altercation,” O’Brien stated. “The sufferer sustained a two-inch laceration to the higher proper chest.”

The sufferer was taken by ambulance to a hospital and underwent surgical procedure for a collapsed lung. He’s in secure situation, O’Brien stated.

Witnesses recognized Magdalena because the suspect within the stabbing, O’Brien stated.

He was booked into San Diego Central Jail on a felony cost of suspicion of assault with a lethal weapon and faces arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Central Division Felony Court docket. SDPD Central Division detectives responded and have been dealing with the investigation.
