China claimed Monday {that a} San Diego-based warship “illegally” entered waters close to a submerged reef removed from the Chinese language mainland that’s claimed by the Philippines.

The littoral fight ship USS Gabrielle Giffords handed close to the Second Thomas Shoal within the South China Sea.

A Philippine warship that was intentionally run aground within the reef serves as a army outpost and has been repeatedly harassed by Chinese language vessels.

“The U.S. infringes China’s sovereignty and security, disrupts regional peace and stability and violates worldwide regulation and the essential norms of worldwide relations,” the Chinese language navy mentioned in a press release.

The U.S. Navy’s seventh Fleet mentioned the Gabrielle Giffords “was conducting routine operations in worldwide waters within the South China Sea, in step with worldwide regulation.”

China claims just about the entire islands and reefs within the South China Sea, regardless of a United Nations ruling that these claims haven’t any authorized foundation. Taiwan, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam even have varied territorial claims within the area, resulting in a number of disputes.

U.S. warships ships routinely sail by means of the realm to implement worldwide entry.
