A person in sheriff’s custody died at a northern San Diego County hospital over the weekend, authorities reported Monday.

A nurse discovered Donald Altmark, 71, unconscious and unresponsive at Tri-Metropolis Medical Middle about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, based on the San Diego County Sheriff’s Division. Medical staffers tried in useless to revive him earlier than announcing him useless.

An post-mortem revealed that Altmark died of a coronary heart assault, Lt. Joseph Jarjura mentioned.

“As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the sheriff’s Murder Unit will conduct a radical investigation,” the lieutenant mentioned.

Altmark had been in custody since Aug. 9, when he was arrested in San Diego on suspicion of indecent publicity.

Three weeks in the past, he was transferred to the Oceanside hospital for therapy of accidents he suffered in a fall whereas in jail.

“We lengthen our sympathies to the Altmark household and (others) affected by his demise,” Jarjura mentioned. “A sheriff’s family-liaison officer will assist the household as they take care of the lack of (their) cherished one.”
