The 5 Marines who died within the CH-53E helicopter crash on Tuesday in East County, San Diego have been recognized Friday by the U.S. Marine Corps.

All 5 have been assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Plane Group 16, third Marine Plane Wing and have been primarily based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, USMC Capt. Stephanie Leguizamon stated.

The identities of the Marines are:

— Lance Cpl. Donovan Davis, 21, of Olathe, Kansas, a CH-53E helicopter crew chief;

— Sgt. Alec Langen, 23, of Chandler, Arizona, a CH-53E helicopter crew chief;

— Capt. Benjamin Moulton, 27, of Emmett, Idaho, a CH-53E helicopter pilot;

— Capt. Jack Casey, 26, of Dover, New Hampshire, a CH-53E helicopter pilot;

— Capt. Miguel Nava, 28, of Traverse Metropolis, Michigan, a CH-53E helicopter pilot.

Davis enlisted within the Marine Corps on Sept. 3, 2019, and was promoted to the rank of lance corporal on Jan. 1, 2024. His decorations embody the International Conflict on Terrorism Service Medal, Nationwide Protection Service Medal and a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Langen enlisted within the Marine Corps on Sept. 14, 2017, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant on Oc. 1, 2022. His decorations embody the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, International Conflict on Terrorism Service Medal, Nationwide Protection Service Medal and two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.

Moulton commissioned within the Marine Corps on March 29, 2019, and was promoted to the rank of captain on Aug. 1, 2023. His decorations embody the Nationwide Protection Service Medal.

Casey commissioned within the Marine Corps on Might 16, 2019, and was promoted to the rank of captain on Sept. 1, 2023. His decorations embody the Nationwide Protection Service Medal.

Nava commissioned within the Marine Corps on Might 26, 2017, and was promoted to the rank of captain on Nov. 1, 2021. His decorations embody the International Conflict on Terrorism Service Medal, Nationwide Protection Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

“We’ve been confronted with a tragedy that’s each service household’s worst concern,” stated Lt. Col. Nicholas J. Harvey, commanding officer of HMH-361. “Our prime precedence now could be supporting the households of our fallen heroes, and we ask to your respect and understanding as they grieve. The Flying Tigers household stands sturdy and contains the chums and neighborhood who’ve supported our squadron throughout this difficult time. We’ll get by way of this collectively.”

On the time of the crash, the CH-53E and crew have been conducting routine flight coaching. The crash was underneath investigation.

The CH-53E Tremendous Stallion helicopter departed Tuesday from Creech Air Power Base, in Indian Springs, Nevada — about 30 miles northwest of Las Vegas – – and headed for Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. It was final heard from round 11:30 that evening.

The plane was positioned by civil authorities in Pine Valley, in East County, at 9:08 a.m. the subsequent day, navy officers reported Wednesday.
