Caltrans and SANDAG introduced Tuesday that 4 further miles of carpool lanes will open on Interstate 5 in North County this month.
Southbound carpool lanes from state Route 78 in Oceanside to Palomar Airport Street in Carlsbad will open at 5 a.m. Wednesday, adopted by matching northbound lanes on June 26.
Opening of the brand new lanes completes 13 miles of freeway development from Lomas Santa Fe Street to Route 78 in coastal North County.
The work is a part of the Construct North County Hall undertaking, which included bridge replacements, railroad enhancements, new bicycle paths and lagoon restoration within the space.
The freeway portion of the undertaking, which included a brand new bridge over San Elijo Lagoon, was the costliest at a price of $646 million.
